JPIC COMMISSION

JPIC Commission promotes, develops, implements, and evaluates justice, peace and reconciliation initiatives of the Indian District, animate and engage members of Indian District, and other Publics on current social justice issues, especially those that significantly impact the poor; assists the District and its members in responding to the challenge to be “prophets of love and servants of reconciliation” in today’s Indian society, the church, and the global community.

First of all, we are called to act on behalf of justice by the Gospel, the church and our Constitutions, Mission Statement and Rule of Life. Witness to these values may sometimes involve taking a public stance in the hope of exercising our prophetic role in the church to help foster a more just society.

We would like to quote Fr. Wayne Jenkins, who states “Dehonian formation should consist of:  an ongoing and adapted education and personal and community engagement for peace in justice and in charity; a serious social formation (study of the social sciences and of the social doctrine of the Church and of the thoughts of Fr. Dehon), in conformity to numbers 34 and 36 of the Constitutions, so as to be sufficiently prepared for the defense of social justice and the rights of man in all areas; a serious revision of our pastoral engagements and our style of life, in the line of service to the poor, for a true witnessing of our solidarity with them; and experience of working with the poor.”
